Information on Omega-3 Sources and Purity

EPA Purity Discussion Thread Response (Shaklee Field Communications) 09/16/2008 01:07 PM

Please consider this document confirmation that Shaklee omega fatty acids are derived from whole sardines, herring, mackerel, and anchovies. The nutritional oils from these fish are processed into an ultra-pure product through molecular distillation, which holds the ingredients in a temperature controlled vacuum to protect molecular integrity. Temperature is minimized to inhibit thermal degradation and ensures the removal of saturated fats while yielding pure and concentrated essential omega-3 fatty acids.

In the absence of a government standard, the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), of which Shaklee is a member, created a uniform standard of analysis, quality, and purity for Omega-3 products, and fish oil supplements that meet that standard are typically referred to as "pharmaceutical grade." The voluntary industry standard includes tests for EPA and DHA potency, measures of oxidation, and limits for contaminants including dioxin, PCB's, lead, arsenic, mercury and cadmium. Shaklee fish oil meets or exceeds the quality and purity standards of the CRN monograph. There are no detectable levels of lead, mercury, PCB's, or other contaminants in Shaklee OmegaGuard.
